September Production - 'Steel Magnolias'
Unfortunately, insufficient men were attracted to the "Kiss me Kate" readings to allow the Show to be cast. We have therefore abandoned plans for mounting this show in September.
Instead, Eve Earles will be directing 'Steel Magnolias', by Robert Harlings. It was this play that inspired the famous film including (et al) Dolly Parton, Shirley Maclaine, Julia Roberts and Sally Field.
Synopsis - Hilarious and touching, set in a beauty parlour in Louisiana. Through four scenes spanning three years, Clairee, Ouiser, M'Lynn and Shelby (Truvy's regular customers) and Anelle, her eager but inexperienced assistant, engage in small town gossip, running the gamut of the birth/marriage/death cycle. The play moves through happiness to tragedy when Shelby (a diabetic) dies following a kidney transplant operation, from this, the deep strength and purposefulness which underlies the antic banter of the characters is ultimately revealed.
