DEADLY NIGHTCAP: Thurs-Sat 8th - 10th and 15th- 17th Sept 2011
Overview
Murder and mystery abound in this ingenious play from the master of the genre - Francis Durbridge - which has more than its fair share of blind alleys.
Directed by Ken Tyrrell.
The Story
Initially, the plot seems to follow a familiar pattern; a greedy husband plotting to kill his wife. Disposing first of her brother, Jack tries to convince Sarah that she is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Enlisting the help of his girlfriend he plans to murder Sarah whilst giving the impression that she has committed suicide. Jack's plans are horribly thwarted - he, not his wife, ends up dead.
But how - and by whom?
The investigation, led by Cliff Jordan, is ineffective, concluding Jack was murdered by a prowler. But was this so? Did Kate Warren seek revenge for her daughter's death or did mild Geoffrey finally snap? Or did someone find out about Jack's shady business deals? There are so many possible suspects and motives that the truth eludes us all. Or has Cliff, after leaving the police force, finally worked it all out?
And if so, what will he do?
