Oliver, was a Musical directed by Peter Court & John Henry.
The 1990's marked a change of direction for HATS; it was the decade in which we successfully staged some of the great musicals. It is said that America's greatest contribution to civilization is the musical. But it was the truly British production of Oliver in 1993 which set down a marker of quality. The show was produced by John Henry and Peter Court, who contributed greatly to the society in terms of style of production. Sadly this was their only production, for work took them to another part of the country. Oliver was important, for it was Lesley Wonnacott's second major role with the society. Lesley has, over the years, become a key member, displaying her great versatility in a wide range of roles. We should not, on reflection, leave Oliver without mentioning Michael Wonnacott, not to be overshadowed by his wife Lesley, gave a fine performance as the evil Bill Sykes.
