Mevagissey Male Choir & Reading Male Voice Choir

Join us for a special treat with not one but two male voice choirs.
With over 40 singing members, Mevagissey Male Choir remains one of the most successful and popular in Cornwall. Formed in 1974 by local men in Percy Mitchell's Portmellon boatyard, the choir is now approaching it's 50th anniversary with well over 1100 concerts under it's belt.

Their popularity reflects their willingness to embrace all genres of music and take on challenging pieces without sacrificing quality. Their extensive repertoire ranges from Bizet and Puccini to Robbie Williams and Freddie Mercury, and musicals to shanties, not forgetting traditional choir music and, of course, songs from Cornwall's own rich choral heritage.

Reading Male Voice Choir directed by Clive Waterman and accompanied by Hayley Tull was established in 1971. We are a growing choir with a focus on raising money for charities by performing at concerts. In 2016–18 we raised over £20,000 from concerts for local charities. In 2016 and 2018 we sang in international choir festivals in Alsace, France and Lake Como, Italy and in 2019 we travelled to Warsaw, Poland. In 2022 we participated in the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival.

Clive Waterman BEM, RMVC Musical Director is well known for his enthusiastic musical involvement with both children and adults, having won several awards, including The Rotary Foundation’s ‘Paul Harris Fellowship’ Gold Award in 2019, for his ‘long-term outstanding contribution to children’s music’. Clive became MD of Reading Male Voice Choir in 2015, having joined as its accompanist while still a student! In 2023 Clive was awarded the British Empire Medal by King Charles III in recognition of his work with our choir and his contribution to charities and the music life of many, children, particularly across Berkshire.

Hayley Tull, RMVC Accompanist has worked in Tokyo where she performed with instrumental soloists and played the flute and piccolo with several orchestras including the Japanese Royal Chamber Orchestra. On her return to the UK Hayley taught the flute and piano at Berkshire Maestros. She is currently Principal Accompanist at the Abbey School where she also teaches the piano and accompanies exams, auditions and concerts. Hayley is Principal Flute for Slough Philharmonic.
